Dazed sat down with The Elephants: a four-man electronic music band. They released their debut album - A Mission of Beauty - in July 2012. All four are dressed completely in black, each wearing neon green sunglasses. These man have revealed themselves to be named David, Martin, Vince and Andrew.
Dazed - Hello boys. How are we today?
David - Very good, thanks. {Martin and Vince nod their heads and Andrew smiles}
Dazed - So, we are completely obsessed with your music. But, we wonder, why the mystery behind all of you?
{David glances at Martin to speak} Martin - We feel like it is not important who we appear to be, more important that we get our music across to everyone.
Dazed - But don't you ever wish you to enjoy being a celebrity? Maybe get some publicity?
David - We hate publicity. Being so-called 'celebrities' does not alter our minds.
Dazed - We respect that. What inspires your music exactly?
Vince - Human nature, human companionship, love... Many things pass our minds.
Dazed - You speak as if you are describing another species. Do you feel like you are humans?
{The boys all smile} David - We know what we are. {David says amusingly}
Dazed - How do all feel about your album being out there, in the world? Your album is doing quite successfully for being a new band in the scene. How does it feel?
Andrew - It feels rewarding, to recognize that others appreciate what we create.
Dazed - I can definitely see where you're coming from. Do you guys plan to publicly step out? We know you are going to be performing in October's upcoming tour. There are going to be a lot of people watching you.
Martin - We are anxious. We are looking forward to becoming fully recognized.
Dazed - Will you all be wearing black and disguising sunglasses?
Martin - We shall see. {Martin and David smiling}
Dazed - So, you guys originally had a promotional single out, which was actually given out free to those who signed up for your mailing list. And we see that you will be releasing another single the 1st of September with actual physical formats. Do you plan on continuing to release singles while you are touring or what substitute?
David - We will continue to release singles. We are also going to be releasing a remix album in December.
Dazed - Sounds interesting. Will there be a re-release for A Mission of Beauty?
Vince - It's an undesirable. But, there will be a "tour edition".
Dazed - Ah, this is great! Not many artists do this anymore, they did it more a few years ago. But re-releases are very common nowadays in the music industry. How do you all feel about becoming a part of the music industry?
Andrew - {Looks down to the ground, thinking, then answers} It's both a gift and a curse. We certainly do not hold the intention of becoming like every other music artist. We are extremely lucky to hold our place, though. I'd say it's more of a good thing.
Martin - {butting in} Society needs difference.
Dazed - Well spoken. We appreciate how so many different bands with different sounds and techniques are becoming more and more popular in the music industry today. And, certainly, October has greatly impacted that difference. How did your band get signed from October?
David - Last year. She actually contacted us from the Internet. She said she was actually researching different electronic bands through YouTube, and happened to come across one of our demos. She said she really enjoyed it and would love to meet us. We met her in New York and she wanted us to sign a contract with her. We were... overjoyed. Ecstatic.
Andrew - It was the happiest moment of our lives.
David - Definitely.
Dazed - October certainly has a unique way of discovering artists that eventually make it to her label, then become huge. It's amazing how the game has changed when October was introduced into the industry. Will there be any collaborations with her in the future?
Vince - Maybe.
Martin - This is a question, even to us.
Dazed - Would you like to?
David - Oh, definitely. We admire her work greatly. Our sounds are very alike.
Dazed - A very interesting track that would be! Alright, is there anything else you guys would like to say?
{The boys look at each other then shake their heads} David - Thank you for the opportunity. {smiles}
